South Carolina is known as the “First in the South,” referring to its position as the first southern state to hold its presidential primaries. Over half the Democratic voters in South Carolina are African-American, so this demographic is an indicator of how minority voters will lean in other states. This coverage focuses on members of marginalized communities. It centers around two candidates, Bernie Sanders and Tom Steyer, and their supporters. The activists range from U.S. senators and celebrity actors to community members. Featured are a variety of faces and settings, meant to represent the variety in the communities. Viewing this story, it is hoped that viewers will take something with them, whether they themselves are a member of a marginalized community or an ally.
