“Need A (Second) Hand? Visit an Estate Sale.”
COLUMBIA, S.C. – Estate sales and antique malls have long been sought after for unique furniture, clothing, home decor, and knick-knacks. Finding treasures amid the remnants of someone’s past requires a discerning eye, and managing such operations demands a special kind of dedication. Kristine Whalon, who now runs Blue Moon Estate Sales, transitioned into this field after a 15-year career in corporate America was cut short by COVID-19. Faced with the choice of waiting for a new job or pivoting to a new path, Kristine chose to pursue her long-standing interest in second-hand shopping and vintage items.
Kristine’s journey led her to Blue Moon Estate Sales in Columbia, SC, where she eventually took over the company. She enjoys the personal aspect of her work, especially the opportunity to collaborate with her husband, Chris, and son, Carter, who assist with every sale. Through Blue Moon Estate Sales, Kristine helps people navigate the difficult process of repurposing items from loved ones, allowing these treasures to find new homes and be appreciated by the Columbia and Augusta communities.
