COLUMBIA, S.C. – I wanted to document my life in Columbia, S.C. during the Coronavirus outbreak. After returning from a spring break trip, we thought we’d just scored another week off of school. Before we knew it, the outbreak spread and impacted us in ways we never really expected and could have never truly been ready for. It’s been one of the most peculiar periods of time in our lives, and we’ve had to adjust the way we go to school, the way we do business, and the way we interact with each other. My final story documents the transitioning aspects of society I encountered on the UofSC campus, the streets of Columbia, and the neighborhoods surrounding my apartment.

Growing up, my dad always had a camera with him, and he would often let me experiment with it. I was always interested in photography, but I never got serious about it until college. I’m a visual communications major. Recently, I have been making a lot of black and white photos with a Sony s6300 and a 35mm lens. You can see some of my photography on my Instagram (@alextwyatt).
